Christmas in July

Happy Christmas in July! I told you that I’d find a way to sneak some Christmas in. I love starting my Christmas cards in July because it’s low pressure and the crafting companies start debuting their Christmas products.

This year more than ever, we need a little Christmas cheer. Let’s get in the Christmas spirit with a few fun cards.

Tim Holtz poinsettia 3d embossing folder

Tim Holtz released this fabulous 3d embossing folder with his chapter 3 release. It stands alone and is perfect to get creative with. Let me show you what I’ve done with it so far.

For this first card I embossed it using my favorite mixed media paper (go take a look at that blog post). Then I water colored the image. These 3d embossing folders are perfect to color in. I started by wetting the paper first then adding color, this method spreads the paint nicely. Once dried, I continued to layer the color. I didn’t do a lot if shadowing because I was afraid of coloring outside the lines but I definitely will next time! Afraid, really HAHA. It’s paper and water. Once complete I attached it to a layering piece and adhered to the card front.

Next up is much more simple. I embossed using shiny paper. My layering piece here is bigger as it’s a 5×7 card. I used some dollar tree ribbon glued that down. Any ribbon practice I can get, I take. TIP, tie the bow before trimming from the spool.

All done! There are a million more ways to use this folder and I can’t wait to try more. Tell me what you have done for Christmas in July by leaving a comment below. Hop on over to my Instagram or Facebook @sewmuchglitter to check out what’s going on. If I have inspired you, tag me #sewmuchglitter with your version of what I have shared.

Have a great week and spread some Christmas cheer. I’ll be back this week with some great kitchen creativity.

Hello

I wanted to introduce myself. My name is Carrie as you may have already guessed based on the blog name. My passion is creating and has been since I was young when I would hand sew pillows with my grandma and aunt, as well as partially finish latch hook designs. Yes, I’m an 80s baby and 90s girl (I couldn’t resist saying it)

I’ve always had a desire to learn new things because the process is rewarding but not always easy. I am new to the blogging world and decided to dive in because friends, family and beyond are frequently asking me why I find joy in my crafting and “how did you make that?” I am hoping this platform can help others on their creative journeys as well as give some sort of positive inspiration, because I feel we lack that in today’s world.

I have two children, two grandchildren and a husband of 19 years. We are partial empty nesters. I am originally from Washington State and relocated to Southern California 21 years ago. While California has been great to us, we are looking to relocate to a more affordable option sometime in the near future. I am in between careers right now due to an injury a few years back. As I said above, I have always had a passion for creating but as life got busy, I didn’t always set time aside for myself. This time has allowed me to rediscover what I love to do and has taught me more about myself. I look forward in getting to know you and sharing my creations as well as my creative process.

Leave a comment below introducing yourself and I will be back soon to share a few of my favorite crafty things. In the meantime please find me on Instagram/Facebook/Pinterest: @sewmuchglitter

Have a great week!
